I was about to post something about my upcoming photo excursions … or maybe an overview on a long-lost television show or distant memory … or some anecdote from my childhood or from my adult life.
And then I noticed something regarding my blog totals.
This post right now – is my 6,000th blog.
6,000 blog posts. That counts my pre-2009 output on a personal blogger.com site; as well as my 2009-2017 run with the Albany Times Union’s blogfarm – and my 2017-current run as an independent blogger once again.
6,000 blog posts spanning 14 years, without missing a single day. That’s NOT easy.
But I’ve learned a few tips and tricks. Have emergency blog posts ready just in case there’s a power outage in the neighborhood, or you won’t be near a computer that morning, or you develop a great idea but you just can’t hammer it completely into shape – and it sits in your inbox until you finally turn it into gold.
6,000 blog posts. 6,000 windows into my life. 6,000 posts with a run of various cameras and films; 6,000 posts about trivia and sports and movies and TV shows and Nightowl Radio Show playlists and Saturday blogroll recaps and everything in-between. 6,000 blog posts about my few triumphs and my many failures and my subsequent redemptions.
It’s never easy. But it’s inspiring.
And I thank you for joining me on this journey. Whether you’re a casual viewer or an active commenter, I appreciate your interest. You’ve proven to me that this blog does have an audience and that people (hopefully) enjoy it each day, no matter what I post.
You know what terms like “Competition Season” and “Holiday Train” and “Syracurse” and “Collarworld” and “Iverhill” mean. You know my cameras – Nikon Athena and Kodak Red and Raskolnikov and the Df stereo setup. Longtime readers will remember The 6 and Cardachrome and the Blackbird and maybe Dracourage; current readers know of Lightning’s Girl.
And the journeys to capture a specific image. A covered bridge in the middle of the night. A Ferris wheel with day-night perspective. Speeding to Central New York for a lunar eclipse. Chugging to South Carolina for a solar eclipse.
You know my loyalties. Thou shalt not desecrate the name of the Pittsburgh Steelers nor the name of the Albany Patroons. Thou shalt not dismiss the Street Academy high school nor the Street Academy trivia team. And the Golden Rule of my life – do right by me, you’re my friend. Do me wrong, pray I never run into you again.
You’ve read my vicious takedown of telemarketers and junk fees and stupidity. You’ve laughed with my adventures in customer service, which in itself could be an oxymoron. And on those occasions when things turn out for the best … then it’s all good.
6,000 blog posts. I mean … someone could argue that’s at least 5,950 more posts than an average man should say.
Screw that. I’m happy with this. And I’m glad for the routine and I’m glad for the connection with all of you.
Okay, gloat time is over.
Let’s get back to posting for real. Blog post 6,001 – which should appear – oh, I don’t know – tomorrow. 😀
Pleased that you’ve let me be a part of it.

Very impressive/obsessive/regressive [who blogs anymore?].
BTW, I checked mine, and it’s 7020. I’m not sure that there aren’t a few duplicates from when I changed from Blogger to WP; I had purged the ones I found.
