Writing, Photography, and the life lessons I learned from Street Academy
Well, this is a new experience… Last year, when I exited the Times Union’s blogfarm, I created my own personal blog stand through WordPress.com. It was hastily crafted and I’m lucky I even got as far as I did with my limited coding skills. This is what happens when Big Hearst says to you, “Don’t…
Read MoreA “mondegreen” is the unintentional mis-hearing of something into a different and unexpected (and often hilarious) new concept. The best way to explain it is with this 1980’s vintage Maxell tape commercial, which takes the Desmond Dekker song “Israelites” and … well … tries to hear what the song is really about. I try not…
Read MoreThere’s an old adage about the weather in the Capital District. If you don’t like the weather, wait 20 minutes and it will change. Seems that way this week – we’ve gone from subzero temperatures to the high 50’s low 60’s in the span of a week. Last time I saw the temperature change that…
Read MoreThis is not normal. Not by any circumstances. But the fact that national newscasters are quoting President Trump’s comments that describe the nation of Haiti and African nations, and quoting him as saying they are “shithole nations” – ugh. Read MoreLast Saturday, I was in Colonie Center taking care of some shopping and other business. And since there was a Verizon store in the mall, I figured I’d go to their automated kiosk and pay my cell phone bill. Should take about 25 seconds to complete. Twenty-five minutes later, I left the Verizon store with…
Read MoreIt was almost as if I never left. On a frost-numbing Saturday night, I attended my first Albany Patroons game in nine years. Of course, it was also the Patroons’ first game in nine years, but that’s semantics. And with a courtside ticket in my hand, I had an amazing time watching the gold and…
Read MoreSorry I’m late with the 7 and 7 this morning, apparently cold temperatures in the Capital District caused my computer and my modem to freeze up.
