It’s the holiday season, and this means companies will put together some seriously potent, heart-pulling commercials. In England, those commercials usually come from department stores. Here in the United States, we get the commercials from automobile manufacturers.
And leading the pack, once again, is Chevrolet. Because of course they are.
I blogged about this phenomenon when Chevrolet produced their tears-in-the-eyes holiday commercial. Still gives me the feels.
And naturally, this year Chevrolet topped their efforts. This is the commercial “Sanctuary.” Starring a father, his son, and a late 70’s Chevy Silverado C10. You might want to find the Kleenex before watching this. Just sayin’ is all …
No, I’m not crying. You’re crying.
Damn it, why couldn’t I have had a father like that in my life?
Your message isn’t lost on me, Chuck.
But as long as we’re on gut-wrenching commercials, my vote goes to those evening drug ads on network tv that prey on unsuspecting, gullible old folks.
The drugs treat this, that and the other thing, complete with rapid-fire disclaimers about side effects – often including heart attack, stroke, cancer and even death.
My new favorite has to be the latest ad from Farxiga. The commercial doesn’t even freakin’ say what it’s for! “For more than a decade, Farxiga has been trusted again, again and again. Ask your doctor…” With no mention of any side effects, it ends with a packed cruise ship sailing off into the distance.
The Google machine tells me Farxiga treats type 2 diabetes, and promotes heart and kidney health. But wait, there’s more! Those pesky side effects, which include: sunken eyes; rash of the penis; foul smelling discharge from the penis; large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet or genitals; depression; loss of consciousness; seizures; thick, white vaginal discharge; confusion; vomiting; frequent urge to urinate, … and 40 more. True story.
Boy, that could be ME on that cruise ship. I’ll have to ask my doctor.

And that is why drug ads aren’t allowed in Canada.
