On March 31, 2022, the Albany Patroons – who at that time were in the midst of a 28-game home unbeaten streak – took on the National Basketball League of Canada’s London Lightning, who at the time were on their own unbeaten streak. Two irresistible forces approaching each other. And in the end, Albany prevailed…

The Patroons won two championships and five division titles from 1983 to 2009. They were a great basketball team and I wish they would return some day.
Albany Patroons 120, Academie Alma 80 – and I’m back behind the microphone.
Honestly, I think the only job I HAVEN’T undertaken with the Albany Patroons over the past 40 years has been power forward. Then again, if I did that, I’d lead the league in turnovers, in bricks, and in bench minutes. That’s one helluva triple-double. Anyway … Last night, the Patroons hosted Academie Alma, a college-level…

So after a 1-1 split at the Armory, the Albany Patroons did a three-game road trip to Quebec. Three games in three days in the frozen North. Fun stuff. Well, they came back from their Quebec road trip with three victories. Nice. First off was a 90-80 triumph in Montreal against the expansion Toundra de…

My first photography adventures began way back in 2005, when I took my little Nikon D70 with its kit lens to an Albany Patroons game and got some images for my efforts. I learned a lot in those early days. I learned that a camera that could barely achieve an ISO of 1600, with a…

Last night. The Albany Patroons were on the cusp of claiming their fourth franchise title. The game went back and forth between the Patroons and the Mavericks all night. All night. But in the final seconds, Albany had a two-point lead, 120-118. All they had to do was keep the Mavericks from claiming one more…

The Albany Patroons have fought their way back from adversity throughout this entire postseason. In the opening playoff round, they lost the first of a three-game series against Atlantic City, only to sweep the Gambits in Games 2 and 3 at the Armory to advance. They then had to hold off the Huntsville Hurricane in…

In the end, last night wasn’t even close. The Albany Patroons entered the Washington Avenue Armory and dog-walked the Kokomo BobKats 121-83. Took them out like Glass Joe in Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out. Don’t believe me? Look at that scoreboard. It gets better. With that win, the Patroons are now the champions of the TBL’s East…

Last night, the Albany Patroons were in a dire situation. They’re currently in a best-of-three semifinal championship match with the Kokomo BobKats, and the Pats lost Game 1 on the road in Kokomo – in front of a packed house full of cowbell-toting fans and a noisy fan drumline. What, you think Kokomo was loud?…

First things first. My new-to-me 2017 Chevrolet Volt Premier (“Lightning’s Girl”) did quite well on its first truly extended road trip. A straight shot from Albany to Syracuse, with a pitstop in Clinton for a couple of photographs that may show up in a future blog post. So here I am in Syracuse. The National…

I knew this day would arrive. It had to. Full disclosure. I’ve worked with the National Basketball League of Canada for the past ten years, working in statistics and player clearances. More full disclosure. I’ve worked with the Albany Patroons for many years, doing everything from game photos to PA announcing to broadcasting to post-game…
